Springing!

No more hiding indoors while the cold weather takes its toll - spring has come! I say that now, but I know that weather around here is too unpredictable to really know for sure. Could be a blizzard in two months, who really knows! 

Look at those flowers bloom!

(Just kidding, this flower is indoors...)

The puddles are so muddy, but it gives hope! All that muddy water used to be snow!

Are those buds I see, trying so hard to peek out? Even if my imagination is getting the better of me, look at that blue sky! Magnificent!

And what makes a lovely spring day even more lovely? Getting things in the mail! My friends and I ordered fabric and wallpaper samples from Abigail Borg because they are just so beautiful! Her designs  just make me think 'Spring'! See more samples here. Thanks Abigail Borg!

Today was a day for thrifting. My sister and I went to a new thrift store, and we both agreed, it didn't live up to our favourite one! This one was extremely neat and well-organized, but half the fun is searching through all the knicks and knacks to find that 25 cent treasure. I love a thrift store packed full of stuff. Packed right to the ceiling!

What do you think? What is the best kind of thrift store?

Here are my finds (bottom to top):

1. A delicate green and pink floral

2. A vintage flour sack - Robin Hood flour

3. A pink/coral blend

4. Another green floral...really couldn't pass it up.

5. Pink and white diagonal pattern

6. A cute creamer - I love the teardrop colours!

This top might be a fun project for spring with one of the pink fabrics.

Maybe I'll try this skirt with one of the florals in a few months.

My mind seems to be looking forward to spring! Probably because Jenni and I drove home in the rain today. Rain in January! Very strange for around here.

Hello Menno.

Okay, anyone in the blogging world know what I'm talking about when i say Rollkuchen, faspa or meddachschlop? These are sunday afternoon staples amoung mennonites. If you're wondering what Rollkuchen and faspa are, check out this fantastic recipe blog.

Something us menno's are also known for is thrifting! Something I'm extremely proud of. (I probably thrift more than I actually say meddachschlop..I had to google how to spell it).

Yesterday, before work, my mom and I took a trip to the local MCC store to do some thrifting of our own. If you haven't heard of MCC, take a look here. All the proceeds from the thrift stores go towards making peace near and far. On the site you can see a sample of the goodies at the thrift stores, organized into colours! I scrolled through it a few times. You should too.

I came back with quite a few goodies! Here are my favourites!

These fabrics reminded me of the lovely patterns Rachel has in her house over at Smile and Wave. MCC, friends! 40 cents a pillowcase!

I found this cute little apron for two dollars. I suppose I could have been craftier and made a pillowcase apron for about 80 cents, but it was so cute, I made the two dollar splurge! I don't cook much, so perhaps I'll just wear it as a skirt... (kidding. don't worry!).

I also came back with some 10 cent frames, lots of vases, and a few other little trinkets! MCC, you and I are best buds. Let's hang out again soon.

They might be. But! It causes such inspiration. Oh my...let me tell you! I've been noticing a few things.

One.

I've been thinking about is having more regular features. I already have the 'Lovelies' feature, once a month. (Just look for the tag Lovelies..or, to be simple, click here).

I would really like to create more regular features. Keep things organized, keep me from babbling on. So as soon as I come up with those, I will announce them!

Two.

Also, I have really appreciated seeing who other bloggers are. It's so nice when they tell where they've been, the things that consume their day-to-day lives. Don't you agree?

I really don't have much about myself in the 'About Me' page. Mostly just things I like to do.

So who is kristen?

Well. I am a Starbucks Barista currently. I have a fantastic family, and a pretty swell boyfriend. I believe God has created a lot of beauty, and blogging is such a fantastic way to share that. I live in the prairies of Canada. Yes, it may be quite flat, but also very beautiful. Hot summers, cold winters. (And no, I don't live in an igloo). I am fairly talkative, extremely optimistic, and a little reserved with non-pleasant emotions. Please email me if you have any burning questions about the oh-so-exciting life of kristen.

Jenni and I made cute little lace and felt flowers.

I found the idea for the felt flower here.

And I found tea crates at a garage sale!

I did a little research (googled it) on Browne and Ashley Tea Company, not much I could find. One thing I did find was that someone was selling this same shelf on Ebay for $10! 50 cents was my fantastic deal!

Does anyone know who the Browne and Ashley Tea Company is?

I'm going garage sale-ing tomorrow and hope to share some lovely finds! I can't wait! What does your weekend consist of?

Bringing Summer Back

The strangest summer occurred. There was wind, there was rain, there was blizzards every week...well not quite, but they would have fit in just fine too. It was a cold and rainy summer though, and now, in October, summer finally decides to pay a visit! Thankfully, I live on the sunny side of the street/dorm, so I get to enjoy all the benefits of my good friend Mr. Sun. I even considered singing the song for him to come shine down on me a little more.

So, with this sun, the flowers outside that haven't frozen already still flourish! And i wanted to bring the joy of those beautiful flowers inside. And so i I did just that. I am quite happy with the result. So beautiful! The buds even bloom just sitting there in the vase.

And the vase you ask? It was a burst of creativity I had probably two years ago, but never had the spray paint to follow through with it. I just taped off some sections in a mosaic pattern on a blue glass bottle and took my can of spray paint to it, and it turned out well! Very simple, and very pretty I think.

I enjoy a second, more adequate, summer!
