Call me! I have a table to answer at!

Hello there! And happy Monday to you, my readers! It is a good day! Today is a stat holiday where I live, but I got to work! Yes, i do mean 'got to'! I am totally fine with working a stat, because that means time and a half for me! Yippee!

I finally got around to re-doing this fantastic table this weekend. I found it at a garage sale two months ago, asked how much for it, and the woman said I could have it for $1! Can you believe it? I was thinking about it recently, and questioning whether I paid more for it, but I am quite certain I only put down a loonie for this cute little thing! Unbelievable find!

I didn't realize when I bought it, but my mom says that in the 60's, these were extremely popular because obviously, there weren't cordless phones, so if you were going to talk to someone on the phone, you'd want to sit, so thus, the ever-popular telephone table! The fabric was a little musty smelling, but otherwise it was in very good shape. Here's the re-do!

I took off the first layer of orange velour, and what do I find? Another lifetime of this chair. In the form of a cowboy/pioneer style print. Mmm, how lovely.

Once I got to the foam, my mom suggested I cut a piece of quilt batting to keep it nice and soft, and did so for me.

Somebody else found it nice and soft too. (This is Gabby, the family dog. She is old and sometimes acts like a lady- hence the tucked-in paws)

Isn't it fresh and pretty? I happen to like it a lot. The plan is for it to go under a window when I move back to the dorm for my second year of college (In one short month! I have so much decorating to prepare!). It's quite a small piece of furniture, so it will fit nicely, as well as host all my plants so they can receive direct sunlight!

I've been told I should paint it, but I kind of like it how it is! Tell me, what do you think? Please, leave a comment and let me know!

Enjoy!

Inspiration Overload.

Well, first of all, are looking at blogs taking over my evenings?

They might be. But! It causes such inspiration. Oh my...let me tell you! I've been noticing a few things.

One.

I've been thinking about is having more regular features. I already have the 'Lovelies' feature, once a month. (Just look for the tag Lovelies..or, to be simple, click here).

I would really like to create more regular features. Keep things organized, keep me from babbling on. So as soon as I come up with those, I will announce them!

Two.

Also, I have really appreciated seeing who other bloggers are. It's so nice when they tell where they've been, the things that consume their day-to-day lives. Don't you agree?

I really don't have much about myself in the 'About Me' page. Mostly just things I like to do.
So who is kristen?
Well. I am a Starbucks Barista currently. I have a fantastic family, and a pretty swell boyfriend. I believe God has created a lot of beauty, and blogging is such a fantastic way to share that. I live in the prairies of Canada. Yes, it may be quite flat, but also very beautiful. Hot summers, cold winters. (And no, I don't live in an igloo). I am fairly talkative, extremely optimistic, and a little reserved with non-pleasant emotions. Please email me if you have any burning questions about the oh-so-exciting life of kristen.

Three.

It's really a win-win situation to have beautiful photos. I try, but I don't consider myself gifted in that area, so, if anyone would care to share their photos on my blog, PLEASE let me know! I would be extremely honoured! And hey, become a follower if you like. Or Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Ah. Thanks for listening. Now a treat!

Jenni and I made cute little lace and felt flowers.
I found the idea for the felt flower here.

And I found tea crates at a garage sale!

I did a little research (googled it) on Browne and Ashley Tea Company, not much I could find. One thing I did find was that someone was selling this same shelf on Ebay for $10! 50 cents was my fantastic deal!

Does anyone know who the Browne and Ashley Tea Company is?

I'm going garage sale-ing tomorrow and hope to share some lovely finds! I can't wait! What does your weekend consist of?

Enjoy!

Ambition Gained! (Dorm Decorating-Phase 3)

So! Do i have things to share! I have just one week until I move into my dorm room, and am I ever prepared!

I went to MCC the other day and was quite inspired! My sister found this little number:

I snatched it up the second she decided not to get it. I love it! My favourite colour too!

I was inspired after my trip to MCC, and so armed with my favourite crafty tool, (I decided every crafter should have this in their home! It's fantastic for sprucing up some very sad 70's items. I did two projects with half a can in just one day!)
I love this little can!

Remember these old, gold outlet and lightswitch covers found on my garage sale adventure?

Well, my trusty little friend helped me out with them and now they look fabulous!

And now, for my favourite project of the week! At MCC, i found this lovely little lamp. Now, it may not seem lovely. In fact, with the old shade, it was downright disgusting. The old shade, that I tore off the second I brought it home was cream, but filled with stains, and had a not-so-pretty ribbon lining the top and bottom that was orange and gold. Oh, if you would have seen it, you would understand my obligation to spruce up this lamp. And, what better time, because I needed a lamp for my dorm!

So here it is! Before: (a brass and orange mess)

Jordon helped me learn the art of spray paint:

And Ta-Da! Isn't it fantastic?! The shade is some really neat teal fabric I found in the clearance bin at Wal-Mart. (They're discontinuing their fabric section. It is a sad day for me.)

I absolutely love this new lamp! It is sitting beside me at this moment, lit up in all it's beautiful, crafty glory. It really is my favourite project to this day!

Enjoy!

A Crafting Hunt -Part Two

The Garage Sale Crafting Hunt was a success!

I recorded at least 12 different garage sales in my new favourite little blue notebook:

but we found lots of other ones I hadn't recorded along the way as well.

I found a lovely vintage looking suitcase! It does smell a little musty, but thankfully, it's summer, so I've been letting it air out a bit outside, and it seems to have helped.

At the first garage sale we stopped at, we found some really neat looking light switch covers. I think they have extreme potential. I might paint them, I might not. I think the one that has the white showing, I will paint, but maybe not the others.

I found this really neat mirror, that i found out wasn't actually for sale, but she let me purchase it anyway!

Jordon found this 70's looking clock, and an Elton John record. Underneath that, there is a frame that I'm going to use to make a neat jewelry holder!

Here's the Threadbanger video that I got the idea for the jewelry holder from. I think this frame will work perfectly!

A Crafting Hunt -Part One

Tomorrow, I am going to conquer my city.

Garage Saling is my adventure of choice. I have recently been introduced to Threadbanger, (by one of three very crafty sisters) a very creative site that has tons of really great D.I.Y. ideas! Some of it is quite out there, but most of it is very much my style! Currently, I haven't attempted any of the projects I have seen on there, but tomorrow...tomorrow I will begin!

I have researched for many hours into the night, and i found 12 different garage sales to visit tomorrow. I wrote them down in my favorite little blue notebook that i recently purchased from a beautiful paper store, Paper-Ya. Check it out, it has some pretty amazing little paper products! I very much enjoyed my visit there!

And so, tomorrow...tomorrow I will commence on this journey. The goal: find a lamp to start on this really neat skyline lampshade, or at least use the same technique to create a lamp of my own.

Here's what I'll leave you with for tonight. The idea. The inspiration behind this entire adventure. I hope my adventure is fruitful! but of course, I will post what comes of it..because this, this is only Part One!

Enjoy!
